Work focus: Jobs in Information Technology
Local demand for jobs in the IT sector has been very high for the first quarter of the year. Some TAFE and other training providers have even found their students successfully gaining employment in their chosen professions without completing their chosen courses.
The Information Technology sector in particular, frequently experiences fluctuations in the demand for trained personnel in the workforce and this often self-perpetuates by creating variances in demand for vocational and other types of training in the teaching sector.
How long the current boom in local positions will last is hard to say. Previous experience indicates a cycle of approximately two years, during which time existing IT positions will be filled, fuelling increased numbers of people seeking out training.
Subsequently the following increase in the number of graduates can create a market flood and a resulting downturn in training popularity, as IT positions dry up.
So for the short term at least, now is a good time to make the move to a career in IT and hope the demand in the job market will remain stable into the near future.
